"Now,
I don't want to get off on a rant here, but..."
No... of course not!
After all, it's not like Dennis
Miller has ever ranted... It's not as
if Dennis has written three books, one titled "Rants", the other
titled "Ranting Again" and the third called "I Rant,
Therefore I Am" (each of them making the N.Y. Times best
seller list).
For those not in on the joke,
"ranting" is what Dennis does best. It's his word for the clever,
humorous monologues he likes to deliver, filled with his own brand of wit
& sarcasm and the frequent political jab.
Cocky, irreverent, cynical,
smug, abrasive - a real wise-ass with a blazing wit, Dennis Miller
has made a successful career out of heaping scathing criticism on social
institutions and individuals alike. His brand of humor is not to everyone's
taste, but his fans are legion.

Broadcast on HBO, his
half hour comedy show, "Dennis Miller Live" has
won five Emmy awards. It consists of his monologue ("The Rant"),
followed by the week's guest and a segment where Dennis fields questions
from call-in phoners, and closing with "The Big Screen",
featuring Dennis Miller doing the news his way: providing
comic captions to accompany candid photos of the rich & famous.
Miller's celebrity guests on
the TV show have included Jim Carrey, Tom Hanks, Sandra Bullock, George
Clooney, Robin Williams, Jerry Seinfeld, Drew Barrymore, Billy Crystal,
Michael Douglas, Charlton Heston, Samuel L. Jackson, Sharon Stone,
Charlie Sheen, Halle Berry, Jay Leno, Ed Harris, Sarah Jessica Parker,
Mike Myers, Lisa Kudrow, Ray Romano, Burt Reynolds, Michael Keaton, Chevy
Chase, Norm MacDonald, George Carlin, David Spade... plus political figures
like Sen. Bill Bradley or George Will and other names in the news such
as Pete Rose.
If you want to call in during
the show to ask Dennis a question while his show is being taped in Los
Angeles, the phone number is (800) 522-8673
(good only from 8:30 PM to 9 PM, California time). Phone early, or the
lines will be too busy to get through.

The show is taped in front
of a live studio audience at CBS Television City in Hollywood, the
same studio where they tape "The Price is Right" and "Hollywood
Squares" - and where they used to tape "The Carol Burnett Show"
and "All in the Family."
Be warned that Dennis Miller's
style isn't for everyone. And HBO's lack of censorship means his "Rants"
can turn R-rated in a hurry. So if you're easily offended, "Live"
may not be your cup of tea. But if you're a fan of Dennis and his work,
nothing beats a little Rant... unless it's the the chance to see it delivered
in person.
But as Miller would say: "Of
course, that's just my opinion. I could be wrong."
